Chinmaya Mission Worldwide was founded by Swami Chinmayananda. According to its Mission Statement, "The purpose of Chinmaya Mission is to provide to individuals, from any background, the wisdom of Vedanta and the practical means for spiritual growth and happiness, enabling them to become positive contributors to society". Chinmaya Mission runs schools, centers, camps, lectures, study groups, bhajan groups, clinics, hospitals, research institutes, retreats and other programs all over the world, besides publishing various books, newsletters, audio and video tapes.
Chinmaya Mission Boston meets every week at Chinmaya Maruti Center, Andover, MA. Meetings are also conducted in Nashua and MetroWest. It consists of value based education for children from ages 5 through 18, called Balavihar including Youth group classes for teenagers, and a study group called Satsang for adults.
Chinmaya Mission Boston frequently invites acharyas and teachers from other centers to conduct lectures on various topics and speak with the children and youth.
On a typical Sunday at Chinmaya Maruti, Andover, the session begins at 9.00 AM with Balvihar and Youth group classes, while the adults attend Satsang. Language classes in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Sanskrit, Marathi and Gujrathi follow the Bala Vihar classes. Due to the large number of students, classes are conducted in two sessions in Andover and one session each at Metrowest and Nashua centers. The second session follows the same pattern as the first session. Children from both sessions attend the language classes.
Lunch is served at the end of the language classes for a nominal cost.
